Teens, parents invited to Girls Power the World event

Teens, parents invited to Girls Power the World event

All girls in grades 9-12 (as well as incoming freshmen and recent graduates) and parents are invited to attend a Girls Power the World event on Saturday, June 15, 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Central Time, at the University of Evansville’s Ridgeway University Center.  This event is designed to help girls build skills and attitudes that will give them the confidence they need to move successfully through the high school years and as they enter college and pursue a career.

Girls Power the World was developed and organized by Castle High School senior Mary Lynn Dennis, as her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, requires completion of a Take Action Project that addresses a community need and seeks to produce lasting, positive sustainable change through involving others in the effort.

Food, tours, more part of Angel Mounds archaeology lab party

Food, tours, more part of Angel Mounds archaeology lab party

A fitting tribute to Evansville’s bicentennial, Angel Mounds is reconstructing the first archaeology lab in Indiana. The original building was used by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s and 1940s. In the face of a national economic crisis, philanthropist Eli Lilly made this a time of new exploration at Angel Mounds.

Now, in 2013, the Alcoa Foundation is filling a similar role.  Representing perseverance and advancement during a time of dire straits, the rebuilt Alcoa Lab will again be a center of research and education on the property.
