A four-part workshop series will help vendors and organizers of farmers markets improve their markets and work with customers, inspectors and social media.

The "Farmers Market Boot Camp Series" consists of four workshops with topics on the importance of food safety, effective use of social media, creating a positive customer experience, and handling customer transactions involving Electronic Benefits Transfer, or EBTs. The series is sponsored by Purdue Extension and the Indiana Cooperative Development Center.

The workshops will be held Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, 14 and 20 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Office in Indianapolis but participants can watch the presentations through Adobe Connect  at the Alexandrian Public Library in Mt. Vernon and at the Warrick County Extension office.

The First Annual Chili Cook-off Competition to Benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ohio Valley serving Warrick County is set for Saturday, January 19.

The event takes place at American Legion Kapperman Post #44,  511 State St., Newburgh (Corner of Sharon Rd and Hwy 261) from 5-8 p.m.

There will be an awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. for Youth and Open Divisions plus People's Choice.

A silent auction will also be taking place and freewill donations will be accepted.   

The Ohio Township Public Central Library is having an Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Wear your sweater to the library that day and join in the fun.

They will be awarding a prize for the Ugliest Sweater in both the public and staff category. Winners will be chosen from all entries on the 18th and the library is open until 9 p.m.

The Ohio Township Public Libraries will be closed on December 24, 25 (Monday & Tuesday) and December 31, Jan 1 (Monday & Tuesday).
