Sam Featherstone Day declared in Evansville | News
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Both the City of Evansville and the Town of Newburgh are recognizing Sam Featherstone and his leadership in raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by proclaiming December 27, 2012 Sam Featherstone Day and Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day, respectively.
The 19-year-old has been battling brain cancer for three years.
He's had multiple rounds of chemo therapy and radiation plus three brain surgeries but a recent MRI showed the cancer is back, and there are currently no more treatment options.
Despite that, Sam, along with his family and friends are raising money and awareness to help find a cure for childhood brain cancer.
They're holding an event on Thursday night called "Samstrong: Search for the Cure"
It's at six at St. John the Baptist Church in Newburgh. There will be both a live and silent auction.
The church is located just East of Knob Hill Tavern.
Over 720 tickets have been sold for the event which was organized in just six weeks.
The amount of tickets sold and donations still coming in shows the many lives that Sam has touched by his simple request to help others.
