Bare walls transformed to spirited mural at Castle High School | News
NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE)- The Castle High School gym is getting a dramatic makeover.
Local artist Michael Smith has been painting a mural that stretches more than 100 feet wide and 50 feet high.
The depiction of the Castle Knight on horseback will be so vivid, he said visitors will be able to enjoy it all the way from the front doors.
Smith said for him, there is no substitute for experience and there are no mistakes. Smith free hands the elements and watches them come together.
Smith has painted several projects in the Warrick School Corporation and for the YMCA, but says this is his favorite project.
"The scale of it, the publicity that comes with it, there's no room for error because you can view it form so far away, the angle is obvious," he said.
The project is expected to take between four and six weeks. Smith and his crew are also preparing the walls on the lower level for another mural.
