Chandler Elementary students say farewell to beloved teachers

Chandler Elementary students had an emotional surprise for their teachers this morning. 

During a morning assembly on the last day of school, students surprised three retiring teachers with flowers and messages of their appreciation.

Third grade teacher Lou Ann Fisher, fifth grade teacher Connie Warren and music teacher April Davidson are all retiring. All three women have more than 34 years of experience each.

It’s the last day of classes for the 2012-13 school year at Castle High School.  Underclassmen will head out the door for the summer this afternoon.

Here’s the summer schedule for the office:   

The building will be open from 9am-1pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning the week of June 17.

Starting on July 25, the school will be open from 8am-3pm.

Warrick County Schools earn '4 Star School' award

Warrick County Schools earn '4 Star School' award

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz has announced Indiana's 4 Star schools for 2013. In order to achieve this designation, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in ISTEP+ testing results. A total of 313 schools received the award throughout the state including these Warrick County schools:

Boonville is inching closer to having its own youth football complex.

Fundraisers and donations have raised much of the money to pay for two game fields, a practice field and maybe a flag football field.  Now, leases with the City of Boonville and Warrick County School Corporation must be signed.  Those two entities own the property just north of Boonville Middle School.

Right now, the league practices at several different locations.

The Warrick County School Corporation Food & Nutrition Department will be participating in the Summer Feeding Program again this year.

Funded annually by the USDA, the program allows schools to provide free breakfast and lunch during the summer to anyone age 18 and younger at areas in the district in which the student population is at least 50% free or reduced. 

This year there will be five Summer Feeding Sites open.

Meet the 70 thid graders at Oakdale Elementary School in Boonville. Congratulations to Patty Wilbanks on 42-years of teaching and her recent award.

We talked about the water cycle and how to read the clouds to forecast the weather for the next day. I Illustrated with some story chasing video along with convective clouds pics.

Also, jet tails will help forecast the weather for the next 24-36 hours. Sure...we have computer models but the clouds will help foretell the upcoming weather.

Star treatment:  Castle North 8th grader wins Inventor and Innovator Science competition

Castle North 8th grader Arjun Dhawan has won the national grand prize at the Inventor and Innovator Science Competition for creating a cane with sensors to help those with vision problems.

Arjun received the prestigious award on May 3 at El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California in a national competition sponsored by the Discovery Science Center, Broadcom Foundation, and Marvel Studios, along with Visa Signature and the famous El Capitan Theater in Hollywood.
