Not only did Indiana's Teacher of the Year, Melanie Park visit students at Oakdale Elementary in Boonville Monday, but she has been to various schools throughout tjhe state. She's met with legislators and education officials about various issues facing students and teachers. She says a big issue in Indiana is that fewer students are making education a career.
“Education is changing so much, due in part to technology and how technology is changing all the time,” she said. “We need to have those young teachers coming in who have grown up with all of that to come and teach all of us too, how to do that. So that's so important to have that group to pull from and here again to have those talented people.”
At the end of this month, Park will head to Indianapolis for a school improvement summit.
