The Castle Knight Archers continued their winning tradition by returning home with their seventh consecutive State archery title. Knight archer, Josh Brawner was the first place winner overall with Boonville’s John Whalen placing second and Castle’s Alex Fichter placing third. Boonville High School and Castle North Middle School each took second in their division.

The Indiana State National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) 2013 tournament was held Friday, March 1,  at the Horizon Center in Muncie Indiana. More than 1,060 archers from 44 schools competed in the one day event. This was the second year that the Indiana NASP tournament used a qualifier system to determine competitors and Warrick County was able to qualify seven teams to participate at State. Boonville HS sent one team while Castle HS, Castle North Middle School and Boonville Middle school each qualified two teams.

For the male division, Warrick County archers took four of the top five spots and six of the top ten. Freshman, Josh Brawner, was the high school division and overall winner with a score of 295 out of 300. Boonville senior, John Whalen took second with a score of 292. Castle sophomore, Alex Fichter, performed a shoot-off against Jennings County High School freshman, Logan Applegate to win fourth place also at 292. Alex Fichter also took second place in the overall shootoff for overall top male of the day. Finishing Warrick’s top five representation was Castle sophomore Mitch Arnold in fifth place with a score of 290. Castle junior, Dakota Pullum and Boonville freshman, Shelby Caton scored 286 and 285 respectfully to earn eighth and tenth place.

In the girl’s division, Kate Dowell, a seventh grader from Castle North Middle School, brought home a fifth place overall, first place grade and a second place middle school division ranking with a score of 281. Castle High School junior, Nadya Post scored seventh overall, first in her grade and fifth in her division with a score of 280.

To achieve their first place finish, Castle archers earned a score of 3390 out of a possible 3600. Boonville High School archers came in second with a score of 3321. Castle North Middle School scored their highest score to date of 3200 to bring home second in the middle school division. All seven Warrick teams qualified for the National tournament to be held in Louisville, KY on May 10th and 11th.
